For most of her early career, Nancy specialized in preventive wellness development and promotion. She was a conventional registered dietitian for over 10 years when she completed her MS in exercise physiology about 20 years ago. Ms. Raymond went on to work in a number of positions blending these specialties.
As an RDN/Exercise Physiologist for Crittenton Hospital Medical Center’s weight management program, Nancy developed patient protocols around weight loss while maintaining muscle mass and optimizing body composition using resting metabolic rate measurements.
She went on to work for Rochester Center for Obesity Research and Treatment, RCORT, as the Wellness Coordinator, where she worked on various research protocols, and on educating, motivating and guiding patients to wellness. Here she co-authored research published in the International Journal of Food Science and Nutrition on meal composition and blood sugar response.
Her ongoing health struggles, (and a bout of good luck), led her to a position at the Center for Healthy Living and Longevity (now The Center for Personalized Medicine), where she was mentored by the founder of the Fellowship Program in Functional and Metabolic Medicine, and her training in Functional Medicine began.
In 2010, Nancy went on to become one of only two in the first graduating class of a newly established MS in Medical Sciences degree with a concentration in Metabolic Nutrition and Medicine, at the School of Medicine, University of S. Florida – the first program of its kind.
She is an accomplished speaker on numerous health and wellness topics, for both the public and for medical professionals, locally and throughout the United States. She has recently began focusing on educating dietitians about Functional Medicine topics to introduce them to this new, science-based systems oriented medical model, so that they may also expand their toolkit to help their patients heal more optimally.
For over a decade Nancy has expanded her knowledge and experience in this exciting field of nutritional medicine. This led Nancy to establish her private practice, specializing in the Functional Medicine approach to wellness and health, Optimal Health Solutions, LLC , an Integrative and Functional Medicine practice utilizing the personalized medicine approach to healing!
